Ms. Hengle’s Bio
Laura Hengle is a classically trained mezzo-soprano living in northeast Ohio. She has performed throughout the region to enthusiastic crowds who enjoy her diverse repertoire of styles as a guest soloist, recitalist and stage performer. Ms. Hengle enjoys stepping beyond the realm of standard vocal music and exploring the works of lesser known composers of the past and present as well as reacquainting her audience with familiar favorites.
Ms. Hengle’s recent accomplishments include the role of Hansel in the opera “Hansel and Gretel” with Opera Per Tutti and the Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra, the role of Alison in the northeast Ohio premiere of “Suburb: The Musical” with the Western Reserve Players and a Town Hall Concert for the Akron Woman’s City Club. Additionally, she has performed in concert with Opera Per Tutti at Cleveland Public Theater and completed alumna recitals at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio as well as a guest recital at the Church of Our Saviour, Akron, Ohio. Ms. Hengle competed in the NATSAA competition in 2008 placing as runner-up in the Ohio district. She frequently performs as a guest soloist at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, Richmond Heights Christian Assembly and Valley Community Church. She is currently preparing the role of Siebel in “Faust” for a spring production.
Ms. Hengle has studied and attended master classes with many renowned artists including Mignon Dunn (The Metropolitan Opera), Dalton Baldwin (international accompanist and coach) and Lucy Arner (The Metropolitan Opera). She received her Masters of Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College where she studied with Lindsay Christensen and coached with J.J. Penna. During her time at Westminster she performed in the Westminster Symphonic Choir directed by Joseph Flummerfelt. Performances with the Westminster Chorus included Mendelssohn’s Elijah performed with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Kurt Masur. Ms. Hengle received her Bachelor of Vocal Performance degree from Baldwin-Wallace College where she studied with Sophie Ginn-Paster.
Along with live performances, Ms. Hengle produced a solo CD titled “Laura Hengle” in 2008 and a holiday CD titled “Christmas Joy”, recorded live, in December 2009. For more information please visit the Recordings section of this web site.
